Call for more people to register for organ donation

There has been a call for more people to register for organ donation in Northern Ireland.

According to the Public Health Agency only one in four people have already signed up for the NHS Organ Donation Register.

Th PHA is calling for more people to consider joining the register in a bid to reduce the number of people waiting for organ donations.

Over 300 people in Northern Ireland are on the waiting list.

PHA chief executive, Dr. Eddie Rooney, said he was delighted that 26% of people in Northern Ireland had already registered as donors, but he said more needs to be done.

He said: “The good work needs to continue if we are to save those who are still waiting for a suitable organ.”
