Funeral takes place of former politician Addie Morrow

THE Funeral has taken place of the former Alliance politician Addie Morrow who passed away last week aged 83.

Mr. Morrow was a dairy farmer who became active in the Alliance party from its early days. He rose to become the party’s deputy leader, representing Alliance on Castlereagh Council and then in the 1982 Assembly at Stormont.

He was also a founder member of Corrymeela — the Christian community which was established to promote reconciliation and peace.

Tributes to Mr. Morrow have been lead by the current leader of the Alliance Party, David Ford.

He said: “Addie Morrow’s whole life was a practical demonstration of his commitment to peace and reconciliation. He was a huge inspiration to many of us now in the leadership of the party.”

Former leader Lord Alderdice expressed his deep sadness at Mr. Morrow’s passing.

He said: “No-one more represented the heart of Alliance. No-one worked harder for peace in Ireland through his commitment to political life in Alliance and the Northern Ireland Assembly, by ecumenical engagement in Corrymeela and in his important contributions to maintaining a genuine liberalism within the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.”

Lord Alderdice added: “We will all miss his presence, but his spirit will live on in those he inspired and encouraged over many years.”

Mr. Morrow’s Funeral Service took later on Tuesday (April 3) in Gilnahirk Presbyterian Church. For full details see below.
