Actress Jean Kent passes away

THE actress Jean Kent has passed away at the age of 92.

In the 1940s and 1950s, Ms. Kent was one of Britain’s biggest stars. During her long career she starred with the likes of Laurence Olivier, Marilyn Monroe and Dirk Bogarde.

Ms. Kent appeared in many of the post-war melodramas produced by the Gansborough company.

She made more than 40 films, including Good-Time Girl (1948), see below, The Woman In Question (1950), see below, and The Browning Version (1951).

Ms. Kent had entered the world of show business at the age of 13 when she performed at London’s famous Windmill Theatre. Around this time she also made her first appearance on television, appearing in a live broadcast of the musical The Ship In The Bay.

After her heyday in movies, she went on to make appearances in many television shows including Thicker Than Water, Steptoe and Son, A Family At War and Lovejoy. Her final screen credit was in an episode of the TV series Shrinks in 1991.

In 2011, Ms. Kent was honoured by the British Film Institute on her 90th. birthday. 

She was married to the actor Josef Ramart, who passed away in 1989. They had met on the set of the film Caravan (1946).

Ms. Kent passed away at the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St. Edmunds where she had been admitted after being injured in a fall at her home in Westhorpe, Suffolk.
