Tributes are paid to actor Christopher Malcolm

TRIBUTES have been paid to the actor Christopher Malcolm who has passed away at the aged of 67.

Mr. Malcolm had enjoyed a successful career on stage and screen before becoming a theatre producer.

Born in Aberdeen but brought up in Canada, he had returned to Britain when he was 19 to launch his acting career. After spending two years with the Royal Shakespeare Company, working with the likes of Paul Scofield, Diana Rigg and Helen Mirren, he began to land small roles on television and films. Early TV credits in the 1970s included appearances on The Protectors, Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color and Thriller.

In the theatre he was the first actor to play Brad Majors in The Rocky Horror Show when it opened in 1974, ensuring him a special place in the hearts of the show’s cult following. He went on to co-produce the musical’s West End revival in 1990.

His early movie credits included roles in Force 10 from Navarone (1977), The Great Riviera Bank Robbery (1978) and Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back (1980), see below.

In recent years he devoted more time to producing stage shows although he did having a recurring acting role as Saffy’s dad in TV’s Absolutely Fabulous.

He passed away just days after his latest theatre project, the revival of Oh! What a Lovely War, opened at Stratford East.

Mr. Malcolm is survived by his wife, the actress Judy Lloyd, and his three children.
