Thousands line the route for funeral of Baroness Thatcher

THOUSANDS of people lined the ceremonial route of Baroness Thatcher’s funeral in London.

Lady Thatcher was accorded a ceremonial funeral with full military honours. Hundreds of members of the armed forces also lined the route to St. Paul’s Cathedral with the coffin completing the journey on a gun carriage drawn by the King’s Troop Royal Artillery.

The solders who carried the coffin into the Cathedral were from regiments which have links to the Falkland’s conflict. A number of Chelsea Pensioners also formed a Guard of Honour at St. Paul’s.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh joined more than two thousand mourners for the Service which included a reading from the Prime MInister David Cameron.

Lady Thatcher’s grandchildren, Michael and Amanda Thatcher, carried cushions bearing her Insignia of the Order of the Garter and the Order of Merit to the alter at St. Paul’s. For full details of the Order of Service, see below.

Following the Service, Lady Thatcher’s remains were taken for a private cremation.

Her ashes will be buried alongside those of her late husband, Sir Denis, in the cemetery of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea.
