Actor Robin Sachs passes away

THE actor Robin Sachs has passed away at the age of 61.

The London-born actor had in recent years been based in the United States and will be best remembered for his role as the villainous character Ethan Rayne in the hit TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

After studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), Mr. Sachs had begun his career in theatre — appearing alongside such stars as Rex Harrison and Judi Dench.

The son of actors Leonard Sachs (The Good Old Days) and Eleanor Summerfield, his early television work included appearances in a number of shows including Upstairs, Downstairs, Brideshead Revisited and Rumpole of the Bailey.

Among his early roles in the United States was as Adam Carrington in he 1991 mini-series Dynasty: The Reunion. His films included The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), Galaxy Quest (1999) alongside Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver, and Ocean’s Eleven.

Over the years he made guest appearances in a wide range of TV shows, including Diagnosis Murder, Murder She Wrote, Star Trek Voyager and Castle.

News of his death was released on the actor’s website. The announcement said the death had been “sudden and unexpected”. The statement continued: “Please join us in raising a glass to Robin — goodbye, dear friend. Thank you for all the laughter and the cookies. We will miss you so very much.”
