Actor and magician John Forrest passes away

THE actor and magician John Forrest has passed away. He was 80.

Mr. Forrest began his film career in the early 1940s with small parts in several films. His first success was as the young Herbert Pocket in David Lean’s Great Expectations (1946).

His other film credits included Bonnie Prince Charlie (1948), Tom Brown’s Schooldays (1951), Very Important Person (1962) and The Bawdy Adventures of Tom Jones (1976).

He also enjoyed success on the stage. Laurence Olivier cast him alongside Vivien Leigh in the West End production of A Streetcar Named Desire in 1949.

In the 1960s he appeared in a number of television productions including the series The Little Ship, Emergency Ward 10 and Good Wives.

Mr. Forrest was also an accomplished magician having been introduced to the art of magic as a young boy by Horace Spencer, brother of the painter Stanley, who was a neighbour.

Using the stage name John Klox he developed a successful magic act which he toured in France and California. He appeared in the Magic Circle TV series in 1977.
