Friends celebrate the life of Whitney Houston

FRIENDS of tragic Whitney Houston used her funeral service to celebrate the life of the singer who had died aged 48.

The service was held in Newark on Saturday (February 18). A number music and film stars attended the private service which was held in New Hope Baptist Church.

Stevie Wonder was among the stars to sing at the service which was broadcast live in the United States. Internet users were able to watch the service on a live feed.

The Eulogy was given by Grammy Award-winning gospel singer Marvin Winans, who is a friend of the Houston family.

Among those who attended were Ms. Houston’s ex-husband Bobby Brown, but he left again shortly after arriving.

Kevin Costner, who starred with the singer in the film The Bodyguard (1992), paid a special tribute, see below. Ms. Houston had a massive hit with the Dolly Parton song, I Will Always Love You (see below), which she recorded for the film.

Ms. Houston was laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Westfield where her father, John Russell Houston, is buried.
