Funeral takes place of former MP

The Funeral has taken place of the former Ulster Unionist MP William Thompson who died this week. He was 71.

Mr. Thompson was a farmer and postmaster who was also very active in politics, both at a local and national level, and the Orange Order.

A resident of Beragh, Mr. Thompson held the West Tyrone Westminister seat from 1997 until 2001 when he lost to Sinn Fein.

He was against the Good Friday Agreement.

Ulster Unionist leader Tom Elliott led tributes to the former MP.

Mr. Elliott said: “He was always a man of his word. He was always very keen to ensure the people he represented got the best of things.”

Mr. Thompson’s Funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon (December 14). He was buried in Cappagh Parish Churchyard following a Service in Omagh Methodist Church.
