Thousands attend the funeral of Michaela McAreavey

Thousands of mourners have attended the Funeral of Michaela McAreavey, the Northern Ireland woman who was murdered while on honeymoon in Mauritius.

Mrs. McAreavey, whose father is Tyrone Gaelic football manager Mickey Harte, was killed when she apparently disturbed burglars in her hotel room.

The Funeral took place in the same church in which Michaela was married to John McAreavey on December 30th.

Requiem Mass was held in St. Malachy’s Church, Ballymacilroy.

She was buried in the adjoining cemetry.

Among the mourners was Irish President Mary McAleese and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.

Bishop John McAreavey, an uncle of Michaela’s husband John, led the Service.

He told mourners: “An evil act ended Michaela’s young life last Monday and robbed John of his beautiful wife.”
