Tributes are paid to former Hawkwind guitarist Huw Lloyd Langton

TRIBUTES have been paid to the former Hawkwind guitarist Huw Lloyd Langton who has passed away aged 61.

Born in London, Lloyd Langton was a self-taught guitarist whose immense talent enabled him to play a wide range of music styles.

He had a long association with Hawkwind, not always as a permanent member but returning regularly over the years to play with the band as well collaborating on projects.

Lloyd Langton had played on the band’s debut album Hawkwind (1970) and featured on a number of subsequent albums including Live 79 (1980), Sonic Attack (1981) and Church of Hawkwind (1982).

When not with Hawkwind, he was a founding member of the hard rock band Widowmaker in the 1970s and then with the Lloyd Langton Group, which he formed in 1982 (see below).

In a statement, the members of Hawkwind paid tribute to their friend.

The band said: “Huw was one of the great guitarists with an individual style and character. He is gone but never forgotten by any of us. He will live on in our music and in our hearts.

“He had been bravely fighting cancer for a couple of years, but was determined not to let the battle affect his day-to-day life.”

Hawkwind have set up a book of condolence, see below for the link.

Cleopatra Records are preparing to release Lloyd Langton’s Rare & Unreleased Anthology (1971-2012) in January.
