Oldest man in Britain Reg Dean passes away

BRITAIN’S oldest man, Reg Dean, has passed away at the aged of 110.

Mr. Dean, who celebrated his birthday on November 4 last year, was a former church minister who had served as an army chaplain during the Second World War.

He had become Britain’s oldest man following the death in 2010 of 110-year-old Stanley Lucas.

During his army service he has been stationed in Burma and following the conflict he had returned to the ministry and in 1947 moved to Derbyshire where he was to spend the rest of his life.

Between 1958 and 1968, Mr. Dean was a member of the teaching staff at Strutt School in Belper, Derbyshire. But he returned to the church where he remained as a minister until retiring at the age of 80.

In his later years he had taken up writing and painting

Mr. Dean loved music and was a founding member of the Dalesmen Male Voice Choir in the late 1980s. To mark his 109th. birthday he had organised a party to which all the current and former members of the choir were invited.

During the gathering he had told his guests that he believed the secret of his longevity was down to being lazy.
