Oscar nominated actor Michael Clarke Duncan passes away

THE actor Michael Clarke Duncan has passed away in the United States. He was 54.

Mr. Duncan was nominated for an Oscar in 2000 for his part in the The Green Mile, in which he played a death row prisoner who possessed extraordinary healing powers.

His nomination as best supporting actor proved to be a major boost to his acting career, which had only started when he was in his thirties. Before taking-up acting Mr. Duncan, who was an imposing 6ft. 4in., had been working as a bodyguard.

His movie credits include Armageddon (1998), in which he starred with Bruce Willis, and Talladega: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006), with Will Ferrell.

More recently he had also been working in television as well as voicing animated parts.

Mr. Duncan had appeared in the sitcom Two and a Half Men with Charlie Sheen and had worked on Family Guy.

Many tributes have been paid from across the film world. The highly regarded actor passed away in hospital in Los Angeles. He had been receiving treatment since suffering a heart attack in July.
