WINNIE Johnson, whose son Keith was a victim of the Moors Murderers, has passed away without knowing where her son is buried. She was 78.
Mrs. Johnson had campaigned tirelessly for Keith’s killers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley to reveal what they had done with his remains. The pair, who murdered five children between 1963 and 1965 and buried two of their victims on moorland, abducted 12-year-old Keith in Manchester in 1964.
Hindley died in 2002 without having been released from jail. Brady remains alive and in custody.
Despite her many appeals and pleas, both killers had refused to reveal the location of Keith’s grave.
Mrs. Johnson remained adamant that Brady could help her but she had conceded that she could pass away without finding her son’s remains (see below).
The tragic mother never gave up hope and continued to press for answers despite battling cancer over the past several years. She had sent word to Brady to tell him she had cancer and again calling on him to help her.
Ironically, Mrs. Johnson passed away as new hopes were raised about a possible breakthrough in finding Keith’s grave. This involved reports that Brady may have written a letter revealing the location of the grave. Police are investigating.
It is understood that Mrs. Johnson had been too ill to be told about the possible breakthrough.
