Tributes are paid to former Derry Mayor

The former Mayor of Derry Kathleen McCloskey has passed away. She was 71.

Mrs. McCloskey had been a long-serving councillor on the council.

She represented the Glen/Rosemount area of the city for the SDLP from 1993 until her retirement in 2005.

A popular figure in the city, Mrs. McCloskey served as Mayor during 2002–2003 period.

Many tributes have paid to the former councillor.

The Foyle MP and former SDLP leader Mark Durkan said Mrs. McCloskey’s qualities had “impressed everyone”

He added: “Kathleen was widely admired for her good nature, respected for her good judgement and appreciated for her good work on behalf of so many.”

Mrs. McCloskey’s funeral was held on Wednesday (January 26).
