Funeral takes place of the journalist Eugene Moloney

MANY friends and former colleagues have attended the funeral service in Dublin for the journalist Eugene Moloney, who died after being assaulted in the city.

The Funeral Service took place in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. A private burial took place in Donegal on Wednesday, July 4.

Mr. Moloney, who was 55, had been attacked in the Camden Street area of Dublin on Sunday (June 24). One man has been charged in connection with his death.

Originally from North Belfast, Mr. Moloney was a talented and well liked journalist. He began his career at the Irish News in Belfast and covered many important stories during the troubles.

He then moved to Dublin where he worked for more than 20 years for the Irish Independent.

He had then lived for a time in Vietnam and had only recently returned to Ireland to resume work in Dublin.

Only days before his death a number of friends were delighted to see him again when he attended the first communion service in Holywood, Co. Down, of a Godson.
