Mash star Harry Morgan passes away

THE actor Harry Morgan, who will be remembered by many for his role in the hit TV series MASH, has passed away. He was 96.

Mr. Morgan had enjoyed a long career in both films and television.

His film credits include High Noon (1952) with Gary Cooper, Support Your Local Sheriff (1969) with James Garner and The Shootist (1976) with John Wayne.

On television, one of his best roles was as Officer Bill Gannon in Dragnet in which he appeared between 1967 and 1970.

But the role he regarded as the greatest of his long career was as Colonel Sherman T. Potter in MASH.

He appeared in 179 episodes of the show between 1974 and 1983.

Mr. Morgan won an Emmy Award in 1980 for his work on the show.

After recording the final episode of MASH an emotional Mr. Morgan told reporters: “I’m feeling very sad and sentimental. I don’t know if MASH made me a better actor but I know it made me a better human being.”

His last TV appearances were in shows recorded in the late 1990s.
