Tributes are paid to Canadian actor Gordon Tootoosis

The Canadian actor Gordon Tootoosis, who played Native American characters, has passed away. He was 69.

He will be particularly remembered for his role in the 1994 epic western Legends of the Fall which also starred Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt.

Mr. Tootoosis played the role of One Stab, a Cree indian who watches over Anthony Hopkins’ sons. He also narrated the movie.

His first film role was in the western Alien Nation in 1974 alongside Donald Sutherland.

He also enjoyed success on both television and the stage.

On television he appeared in the 2007 adaptation of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, and the TV movie Call of the Wild in 1993.

Mr. Tootoosis was born in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan and in recent years was active in politics in the region and had served as a vice president of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations.
