Hopes raised that air crash victims will be recovered

Hopes have been raised that the bodies of people killed in an air crash in 2009 could be recovered.

All 228 people on board the Air France jet died when it crashed in the Atlantic after taking off from Rio de Janeiro on a flight to Paris.

Now French air accident investigators have confirmed that wreckage from the Airbus A330 has been discovered on the ocean floor.

Officials have also said that human remains have been found at the scene which was photographed by remote-control submarines.

The discovery has been made some 1,500 miles off the Brazilian coast.

After the crash only 50 bodies were recovered.

It is now hoped that an operation will be carried out to recover other victims.

Among those still missing are three young women from Ireland.

They are: Eithne Walls, who was 28, and came from Ballygowan, Co. Down; Jane Deasy, 27, from Dublin and 26-year-old Aisling Butler from Roscrea, Co. Tipperary.
